 INFO

Jingart, as one of Beijing's newer art fairs, adopts a "small but refined" approach. Since its inception in 2018 with 32 galleries, the fair has seen a steady increase in participation: 41 galleries in 2019, 43 in 2022, and 54 in 2023. This growth indicates that although Jingart is backed by the more established Art021, it has chosen not to expand rapidly in size from the start in Beijing. Instead, it focuses on the quality of its exhibitors. The 2023 edition of Jingart featured leading international galleries that brought a contemporary and forward-looking perspective to the fair, thereby broadening the scope of traditional art and fostering a localized international art market. Notable participants included prominent galleries such as David Zwirner, Lisson Gallery, ShanghART Gallery, Galleria Continua, and Tang Contemporary Art, all contributing to the fair's reputation for high-caliber presentations. The gallery list for the 2024 edition of the fair has not yet been released, but it is anticipated to be quite impressive. This expectation is based on the fair's consistent growth and its reputation for attracting high-quality exhibitors and groundbreaking art. Enthusiasts and collectors alike can look forward to a diverse array of galleries that continue to push the boundaries of contemporary art.

Their rapid growth in Beijing, a non-home turf, is clearly visible. As a crucial battleground for galleries, Beijing's art market is a key area that many galleries aim to deeply explore. Compared to collectors in other major cities, Beijing's collectors tend to leave an impression of being more low-key but serious, and "powerful yet understated." These characteristics were evident in the price points of the artworks brought to JINGART in 2023. Notable examples included Yayoi Kusama's pieces priced at USD 3 million, Kerry James Marshall's works at USD 2 million, Anish Kapoor’s sculptures at CNY 8 million, and Li Jin’s pieces at CNY 7 million. These figures not only reflect the high caliber of the art presented but also the sophisticated taste and substantial purchasing power of Beijing's art collectors.

The team behind JINGART, which also organizes the established ART021 and Shenzhen DNA Art Fairs, is recognized as a seasoned player in China's contemporary art fair scene. This affiliation with the ART021 team ensures that JINGART benefits from extensive resources and invaluable experience in hosting art fairs. Furthermore, JINGART leverages the well-curated high-net-worth collector list from ART021 to precisely target and invite potential clients, enhancing its appeal and effectiveness. Despite being relatively new in Beijing, JINGART draws on the proven success model of ART021, which fosters trust and interest among collectors and galleries alike. This strategic connection allows JINGART to establish itself quickly within the competitive landscape of Beijing's art scene, promising a dynamic and engaging experience for all attendees.

Many collectors who traditionally focused on calligraphy and ink paintings are shifting their attention to contemporary art, and JINGART has adeptly catered to this evolving market interest. Additionally, JINGART has previously encouraged galleries to showcase works from the 1990s, which not only command higher prices but also serve as a transitional point for collectors. This strategy eases collectors' move from traditional Chinese art to contemporary Western art, allowing for a gradual and more connected journey through the art world.
